Philander Smith College Coronation
The Miss Philander Smith College Coronation will be held Oct. 16, 2010, at the Mosaic Templar’s auditorium, 501 W. Ninth Street. Senior Felicia White of San Antonio, TX, will be crowned Miss Philander 2010-2011. The event begins at 5:30 p.m.
White is majoring in Mathematics, and expects to graduate this spring. Her extra curriculum duties include acting as Bless the Mic director; memberships in Platinum by Design, the Leadership S.U.M.M.I.T., and serving as a presidential ambassador and on the Judicial Board for the school.
The Coronation is the formal installment of Miss Philander Smith College. Other clubs and organizations’ queens participate in the ceremony as well. Miss PSC will be escorted by fellow classmate senior, Joshua Hampton.
White succeeds Francennett Herrera Miss Philander Smith College 2009-2010.
Educational Futurist and Staff Writer for Fast Company Magazine, Anya Kamenetz, will share her insights on generation-specific issues like financial literacy, social media, and the green industry with the Bless the Mic audience at Philander Smith College, Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010.
She was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize by the Village Voice for her feature series that’s now a book entitled Generation Debt: The New Economics of Being Young. Written when she was just 24, Generation Debt (Riverhead Books, 2006), drew national media attention and passionate online debate with its argument that young people are facing unique and unprecedented economic challenges.
