SJI is responsible for developing, managing, and coordinating all service learning activities at Philander Smith College. According to Service Learning Clearinghouse, service learning is defined as teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experiences, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.
