PSC Health Services Department
Philander Smith College provides a comprehensive health care program to all enrolled
students. The health care services are provided by on-campus health care provider
functioning in a dual role, Martie Savage, a registered nurse and a Family Practice
Physician. Students can be evaluated and treated for most health care issues. The
Health Services Department’s primary goals are to promote health care management,
facilitate disease prevention, provide health care information and increase awareness
of health issues significant to this population. These services are available for
the faculty, staff and student body.
In an effort to achieve these goals, Philander Smith College also has available
for the full time undergraduate student a supplemental health insurance policy designed
to absorb some of the financial burden often incurred as a result of receiving health
care services. The insurance covers sickness and injuries not covered or payable by
any other plan (or from any other source) providing medical expense benefits. The
services rendered by the RN and the Family Practice Physician are provided at no cost
to the students.
The Health Services Center is located in the Residential Life Center (RLC), suite
125 and is open Monday – Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. The staff can be reached any time
at (501) 370-4125 or (501) 804-5709.
