Summer 2014 4-Day Workweek Schedule

Summer 2014 4-Day Workweek Schedule

Philander Smith College will begin implementing a 4-day, 10-hours per day (4/10) summer workweek schedule beginning Monday, May 5, 2014 and ending on Friday, August 1, 2014. The campus will be closed on Fridays during this period except for essential services (there will be departments maintaining 5-day or 24/7 coverage during this period based on PSC needs). The purpose of the 4/10 summer schedule is to keep the campus closed on Fridays and Saturdays to the greatest extent possible, thus reducing operating costs and assisting PSC with its cost savings initiatives.

General guidelines for implementation of the 4/10 summer workweek:

  • The normal workweek will be Monday through Thursday, from 7:30am to 6:00pm, with a 1-hour lunch.
  • If a 30-minute lunch is preferred, a 7:30am to 5:30pm or an 8:00am to 6:00pm schedule may be worked.
  • The revised schedule will be thirteen weeks long. The 4/10 schedule begins Monday, May 5, 2014 and ends on Friday, August 1, 2014.
  • The week of May 26 (Memorial Day) will be a 3/10 week (off Monday).
  • The week of June 30 (Fourth of July) will be a 2/10 week (off Thursday and Friday).
  • PSC will resume the normal 5-day/8-hour-day schedule on Monday, August 4, 2014.
  • Less than full-time employees will keep their current schedule.

Essential personnel schedules may vary from this 4/10 summer schedule and will be handled by each department. The guidelines above must be used to establish each employee’s specific schedule within those departments. Schedules will be determined in cooperation with, and approval of, the supervisor. Schedules are to be arranged between supervisors and employees .

It is our wish that this summer workweek schedule will not only increase productivity and uplift morale here at PSC, but that it will also improve each employee’s family life and well-being.
