T he Division of Social Sciences prepares students for careers in any field that deals with the social aspects of human behavior.  Studies in the Social Sciences offer students the opportunity to gain broad experience in a set of skills that can transfer into many career concentractions, e.g. Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, History and Political Science.
At Philander Smith College we endeavor to prepare students in the Social Sciences for graduate study as well as careers in law, counseling, business, the ministry, public and human services, teaching and social research.  it is our belief that studying various aspects of social and human relationships will enable students to use research methodologies to identify and measure the dynamic changes of social and cultural relationships.  in building a community of scholars with an emphasis on the pursuit of social justice, collecting data and applying it to specific circumstances and situations creates a basis for supporting business efforts as well as the need for bolstering government social programs.
