New Student Orientation

For summer 2012 we are, for the first time, offering over night Student Orientation programs to all students who have been accepted to Philander Smith College.

New Student Orientation Sessions (Students must attend both days of the session)

  • Session 1 - June 29-30
  • Session 2 - July 13-14
  • Session 3- July 20-21
  • Session 4 - July 27-28 **

**Session 4 Orientation (July 27-28) is mandatory for Transfer and Non-traditional students.

It is MANDATORY for all students, including residential, non-residential, transfer and non-traditional students to attend one of these sessions. Please register for your dates at or call the Admissions Office at 501-370-5221. We recommend that you register early. If you have any questions about these dates, please feel free to contact the Office of Admissions.

Accommodations during orientation will be available on campus for the student and up to 2 family members for a fee of $50.00 per person. This fee includes two lunches and one continental breakfast. You will need to bring your own bed linens (extra long, twin-size beds), towels and toiletries. Due to limited space, we recommend you register early.

Students MUST have final official transcripts and shot records submitted to the Office of Recruitment & Admissions by August 1, 2012 or they will not be able to move into the dorms or attend classes.  We also strongly encourage students to have their FAFSA completed by this date.

Anyone who has less than 19 in any category on the ACT  or less than 470 in SAT CR or less than 500 in SAT MATH MUST take the COMPASS Test. You may take this test on one of the New Student Orientation Days or take it remotely. The deadline to take the test remotely or by any other means is August 1, 2012!   Please contact Mrs. Carla Wood in the Academic Success Center at 501-515-1158 or 501-975-8551 for more information.

The Compass test will enable the academic advisors to properly place students in the appropriate courses and connect them to the resources needed to achieve academic success.

There is a non-refundable $235.00 room reservation fee due by May 1, 2012 and may be paid by mailing a money order to the Office of Admissions or by calling the Business Office at 501-370-5206 and pay with credit or debit card. Call 501-975-6059 (Residential Life Center) or 501-370-5221 (Admissions Office) for questions related to housing. We strongly encourage you not to wait until May to pay your deposit.
