Lloyd E. Hervey, Ed.D.
As the Board of Trustees begins a national search for the 14th President of Philander Smith College, Lloyd E. Hervey, Ed.D., has been appointed as Interim President.
Dr. Hervey has a long history of association with Philander, which began during his undergraduate years as a student in the Division of Education. He was graduated from Philander Smith College in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts.
He earned a Master of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Central Arkansas in 1971 and a Doctor of Education, Instruction and Curriculum Leadership degree from the University of Memphis in 1995.
He has been an Assistant Professor in the Philander Division of Education since 2007. Previously, he was Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Minority Recruitment-Retention, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, at the University of Central Arkansas. He also has hands-on instructional experience in secondary and elementary schools.
Dr. Hervey is a Vietnam veteran who served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps.
He will work with faculty, students, alumni and donors to continue Philander's mission to graduate academically accomplished students who are grounded as advocates for social justice, determined to intentionally change the world for the better.
