NSO 14 Frequently Asked Questions

Is New Student Orientation (NSO) mandatory?
Yes. Orientation is mandatory for all freshmen, transfer, and international students, regardless of whether you will live on or off campus.

If I wasn't able to attend NSO, when do I register for my classes?
Late registration is Monday, August 11, 2014.

When do I get my schedule and PantherCard?
You will receive your schedule during Welcome Week. You will receive your PantherCard (ID) upon completion of registration and business office clearance.

What do I do when I get to campus on freshman move in day? Is there a schedule so that I can let my parents know?
Yes. There is a schedule. Please refer to the New Student Orientation Schedule at

I will not be able to move in on the Thursday freshman move- in. If I come later that day, weekend or week, what will I miss and who should I report to when we arrive?
It is very imperative that you arrive to campus on Thursday, July 31, 2014. There will be a wealth of information distributed and you do not want to miss receiving very important information that is critical to your success as a student here at PSC. However, if you must miss, you should report to the Admission office upon your arrival to campus and they will direct you to the appropriate office.

How many days will Orientation/Welcome Week last?
Orientation/Welcome Week is eleven (11) days, Thursday, July 31 – Sunday, August 10th. Classes begin on Monday, August 11th.

Are my parents required to attend orientation?
Parents are strongly encouraged to attend NSO with their student. We understand that schedules might not permit, however we do ask that at a minimum, parents remain and participate in the special parent session that will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. We also invite you to join your student for the New Beginnings Transition Ceremony, which is scheduled from 10: 00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014.

Will someone from (PSC) pick me up from the airport/train station or bus station?
No. Unfortunately, the college does not provide transportation. However, you may contact Yellow Cab of Little Rock at 501-222-2222 for your transportation needs.

If the cab has to wait for you, there is a wait time charge as follows:

  • $.37 cent per minute or $22.00 per hour

To help you estimate the cost of transportation to campus:

  • The Greyhound Bus Station is approximately 2.1 miles from campus
  • The Mega Bus Depot is approximately 1.8 miles from campus
  • The Train Station is approximately 1.3 miles from campus
  • The Airport is approximately 5.3 miles from campus

Does (PSC) have a payment plan?

I have not received my roommate assignment. Who do I need to contact to find out who my roommate is?
Roommate Assignments will be available June 1, 2014. If you haven't received your room assignment and you have paid your room deposit you can email the Residential Life Office Manager, Ms. Wilkins at to receive your assignment.

Can I request a roommate?
We will do our best to accommodate your request. However, we cannot always guarantee roommate requests.

What can I bring for my room?

Does the residence hall have wireless internet?
The residence halls are hard-wired. You will need an Ethernet cord to access the internet. CIS no longer provides virus protection for your computers. However, it is strongly suggested that you have antivirus software. Please go to and click on antivirus security then malwarebytes to download antivirus protection. It's all free! If your computer already has antivirus software, please disregard this notice.

How much does it cost to have cable connected in my room?
Cable access is included with your Room and Board fees. Please note, you will need to bring a splitter, extra cable cord and an "official" surge protector, not a power strip.

Do you have a laundry room and if so how much does it cost to wash and dry my clothes?
There are laundry facilities on each floor of our residence halls. It is $1.25 to wash and $1.00 to dry.
