The philosophy of the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs is to maintain
goals and values which are best for the students and for the institution. Reporting to the
president of the College, the VPAA also fulfills four other primary roles:
Leading: The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs works with academic division
chairs and faculty, articulates an academic vision for the College, sets the overall academic
direction of the College, and establishes the academic agenda for the future.
Facilitating: The VPAA facilitates the accomplishment of the College's mission and its
academic goals through the development and maintenance of academic programs, procedures,
and measurable standards; in the selection, evaluation, and development of faculty and staff; in
the review of academic programs and activities; in the allocation of funds; and in the provision of
information to the College community.
Collaborating: The VPAA collaborates with Division Chairs and directors to enhance teaching
and learning and undergraduate research; to appoint new faculty members and support staff;
and to promote retention and rigor in the classroom. The VPAA also collaborates with the
Librarian to enhance information literacy across academic programs and with Coordinators to
ensure academic support of teaching, learning, and research.
Coordinating: The VPAA maintains a broad and coherent perspective of liberal arts education
to meet the needs of the College within the higher education community.
